Installing a typical branch-office server
for 25 users

This is a server we are installing for a branch office of Cumbria County Council. This particular site pays a fixed cost per PC, and this includes regular server updates every 3 years to ensure equipment remains current.

Our complete it solution includes provision of all required server hardware and support. We provide quality branded hardware from Dell, HP and IBM, and most of our support is pro-active as our aim is to catch problems before they occur. It is far more cost effective over a 3 year period to budget a few minutes a day to prevent problems than it is to wait for a serious failure to occur.

Pro-active maintenance tasks include:

Daily Tasks (approximately 30 minutes per day)

  • DFS replication status and backlogged file check
  • Anti-virus status
  • Active Directory health
  • Mail queue checks
  • Review of other automated checks

Weekly Tasks (approximately 1 hour per week)

  • Microsoft updates and Server reboots
  • Event log analysis
  • Disk space and quota monitoring

This is a complete server solution we installed for BRI Asset Management, a fast-growing financial services company that needed room to expand.

3 year replacement

Servers we provide are replaced on a 3-year cycle. Linux

8Networks are Linux specialists and we have been provided Linux solutions since kernel 1.2! Of course, things have moved on significantly since then, and we find our smaller organisations save on average £7020 over a 3 year period by using a Linux server instead of Windows.

For larger organisations we use a combination of Linux, VMware and Windows server for the ultimate no-compromise mix of performance, functionality and reliability.

Microsoft

8Networks have consultants that specialise in SharePoint and Exchange, and we have pre-made packages available for organisations wanting to add these technologies to their system.

The hardware

Hard drive security

We have agreements with Dell and HP which means, in the event of a hard drive failure, we do not need to send the hard drive back to them under warranty. This is especially important for organisations with sensitive data, or organisations regulated by the Financial Services Authority. You can be sure your data is never sent to a 3rd party without your knowledge.
