Improve performance of Outlook 2007 on roaming laptops and non-local (VPN) based PCs

This only applies where:

  1. Outlook 2007 is installed
  2. The user connects to Exchange 2007
  3. The PC or Laptop is used either
    • away from the LAN (e.g. remote site or VPN), or
    • both on and off the LAN.

It is not necessary to perform these steps on a PC or laptop that is only used on the LAN.

Overview

In certain situations Outlook can take a long time to calculate the correct connection method. The following steps configure Outlook to always use a reliable connection, regardless of whether the PC is on or off the LAN.

  1. Open Outlook 2007.
  2. Click "Tools" > "Account Settings" from the main menu.
  3. Click "Change"

  5. Click the "Connection" tab, then click "Exchange Proxy Settings"

  6. Tick “On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP”

  8. Exit and restart Outlook
